Multiple (usually 2 or 3) pieces of transparent tubing join to form one channel within a chamber (which may or may not be transparent) terminating with a male luer lock. All of the lumen possess a clamp (either a slide clamp or Roberts clamp) and terminate in a colour coded female luer lock and plug (some devices terminate in an needle-free connector). The tubes may differ in length and diameter, to be used for different flow rates. Each lumen commonly possesses a one-way valve.

Method of use
Used with central venous cannula and IV cannula (either directly attached to the end of the cannula or by the one-way injection port on cannula). Used for the administration of more than one medication or medication with fluids. Used on occasions when it is essential that two drugs are administered together but cannot be mixed prior to administration.
