Evidence Based Procurement Board (EBPB)
The Evidence Based Procurement Board (EBPB - formerly the All Wales Medical Devices and Consumables Strategy Group - AWMDCSG) consists of professionals from within NHS Wales and Welsh research bodies, making recommendations and guidance for value and evidence based procurement of medical technologies for NHS Wales, whilst advising the Shared Services Committee, the Financial Delivery Unit and the Welsh Government Efficiency Healthcare Value & Improvement Group.
The Board, which had its inaugural meeting in November 2015, assists with the rationalisation and standardisation agenda in line with Prudent healthcare principles, and is underpinned with the “Once for Wales” philosophy. It will also assess whether NHS Wales should discard devices/technologies if they are deemed inappropriate or wasteful.
The EBPB is chaired by Dr Stephen Edwards, Assistant Medical Director and Consultant in Anaesthetics, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board with members drawn from across the Welsh NHS and academia. The Board is hosted by NWSSP (NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership) which also provides the secretariat for the Group.
Papers and reviews commissioned by the Board and opinions of the Board are available below.
