Method of use

Used to deliver a fixed volume of IV fluid at a fixed rate, usually with added medication. A primary IV solution set is attached to the spike adaptor at the distal end of the in-line burette set. Clamps on both sets are closed whilst the spike of the in-line burette is inserted into a fluid container. A small amount of fluid (depending on size) is released into the burette and the primary IV solution set below is primed. The burette is filled to the desired level and the clamp closed. Medication is added to the fluid via the injection port on the burette if desired. The primary set is opened and the drip rate adjusted as normal. Fluid flow will stop when the burette is empty. The use of a burette allows fine control of fluid volume and avoids inadvertent over-transfusion.

Please note: usage of this product is in decline due to an increase in the use of accurate volumetric pumps.

A solution burette (incorporating a primary solution set and a burette) is preferred to this device due to infection risks.
