SMTL Medical Disposable Datacard
Electrode ECG (for diagnostic and monitoring purposes). Adult and paediatric.
All Wales Contract: | ECG Electrodes, Diathermy plates, Defib pads |
Sterility Status: | Non Sterile. |
Usage Status: | Single use. |
Description
Microporus or foam electrodes with a conductivegel on the underside.
Two types of gel coating exist. Some electrodes possess a drop of wet gel in the centre of the electrode. This is the most common type used and is considered to produce a more immediate and better quality signal. There is also a requirement for radiotranslucent versions of this. The other type of electrode possesses a very thin layer of hydrogel spread over the entire underside (sometimes known as 'solid' gel).
Electrodes possess studs on the upper side forconnection to ECG leads. Studs can be'set' (i.e. centre of the electrode) or 'offset' (stud positioned onflap at the edge of the electrode).'Set' studs require application of pressure to the centre of the electrodeand can lead to leakage of the gel. For this reason 'offset' studs are sometimes preferred.
All combinations of gel type (wet and solid) and stud positions (set and offset) are required.
Certain circumstances require electrodes that are 'extra-adhesive' for example. When users require electrodes with particular characteristics such as this, they should assess whether the electrodes are suitable for their particular purposes.
Please note : these electrodes are to be distinguished from diagnostic tabs (for 12 lead ECG) which are on a separate datacard.
Key areas where used
- All areas especially Cardiology and Theatre.
Method of use
The peel-off backing is removed from the electrode, positioned on the patient and leads from the ECG machine areconnected to the studs by grabber clips. When using electrodes with 'wet' gel and 'set' studs, the leads should be connected to the electrode before the electrodes are attached to the patient.
Please note : most disposable ECG electrodes are suitablefor short or long term use. They are used for a variety of tests includingstress, ambulatory and bedside monitoring
Presentation
- A variety of presentations are available, forexample, loose in bags of 10 and 25 or in strips of 5, 6 or 3
Sizes Required
- Variety of sizes available (for adults and infants)
